MICHAEL CURTIZ 1888-1962
Macar asıllı,Amerikalı,bir çok türün ustası olmuş,üretken bir yönetmendir. Avrupa’da 50 den fazla film yönetti. Amerika’da ise 100’den fazla film çekti. Film yapmayı öğrenmek için Macaristan’dan Danimarka’ya gitti. 1924’te çektiği ‘’ Moon of İsrael’’ Jack Warner’in dikatini çekti ve ona Warner Bross’un kapılarını açtı. Bu stüdyo da 18 yıl çalıştı.Bu dönemde macera filmlerinde Errol Flynn’ı yıldız yaptı.1933 te çektiği ‘’Mystery of the Wax Museum’’ Hollyood’un korku filmleri klasikleri arasına girdi. Yönetmen olarak 4 kez Oscar’a aday gösterildi. Başkan Roosevelt,Curtiz’den (Sovyet propaganda filmi) ‘’Mission to Moscow’’ u yapmasını istedi. İleri yıllarda Elvis Presley Bing Crosby ile de çalıştı.
Hollywood stüdyolarından güzel eserler çıkarmayı başardı. 178 film çekti. 1960 yılında Hollywood Bulvarına Yıldızı kondu.

Michael Curtiz’in En iyi yönetmen OSCAR ödülü kazandığı film,1943 yılında,savaşın Casablanca konferansına rastlamasıyla, ilgi odağı oldu. Ancak en büyük süksesini 1960’lı yıllarda ,ABD üniversite gösterimlerinde gençlerin ilgisi ile kazandı. Humphrey Bogart’ın efsane bir oyuncu oluşu bu döneme rastlar.
