GEORGE SHERMAN 1908-1991
Amerikalı Film yönetmeni. Genelde B tipi Western filmler çekti.14 yaşında Warner Bros.da postacı olarak çalışmaya başladı.Zamanla çeşitli birimlerde çalışarak 1937 ilk filmi western ‘’Wild Horse Rodeo’’yu ‘Republic Production’ için yaptı. Republic Stüdyo’ları Western türü üzerinde yoğunlaşmıştı. Sherman 1938-1944 yıllarında western’lerini burada yönetti.1945-1948 arası ‘Columbia Pictures’da çalıştı. 1946 ‘’The Bandit of Sherwood Forest’’ Robin Hood uyarlaması oldu.1946 ‘’The Secret of the Whistler’’ gerilim dolu bir Film-Noir’dı. 1947 ‘’Last of the Red Skins’’ 1757 yılında Fransa ile Kızılderililer arasındaki savaşı konu aldı.1948 ‘’Relentless’ western olup 1.6 milyon $ gelir sağladı.
‘Universal Studios’ ile 1948-1956’ya kadar çalıştı. Yaptığı filmler arasında, 1949 Filistin’de geçen savaş filmi’’Sword in the Desert’’ ;1950 western, Maureen O’Hara’nın oynadığı ‘’Comanche Territory’’; 1950 film-noir ‘’The Sleeping City’’;1952 western ‘’The Battle of Apache Pass’’, sayılabilir.
Son yıllarında Televizyon dizi filmleri yönetti. Western dışında savaş ve Film-Noir çalıştı.TV eserleri dahil 128 film yönetti. 1961 yılında John Wayne’in oynadığı ‘’The Comancheros’’ filminin Prodüktör’ü olarak, 1962 yılında ‘National Cowboy & Western Heritage’ Müzesinden BRONZE WRANGLER onur ödülü verildi. 1988 yılında Western türüne katkılarından dolayı GOLDEN BOOT ödülü aldı.
